12.03.2006 EARTHQUAKE AT ZHYTOMYR REGION

Abstract

The seismic event was classified as local tectonic earthquake in the area of Yamilec and Ohotivka villages at Zhytomyr region was registered. The instrumental co-ordinates of earthquake hypocentrum: latitude = 50.9436°N, longitude A = 28.0094°E, depth of source H =1.7 km, magnitude Md = 3.6. The earthquake occurred in north-westem part of the Ukrainian shield on the East-European platform in an area was considered earlier as aseismic in according to the normative map SZ-78 (SZ-seismic zoning). The earthquake at Zhitomir region, the 03.01.2002 earthquake in Ternopil region which had at epicentre the Intensity up to 6 ball, as well as the several weaker local Barthquakes was occurred at 1963 and 2001 at East-European platform, along with the information about the seismicity of other ancient platforms, witness about the necessity to carry out the instrumental seismological observations and special seismotectonic investigations at all parts of the platform’s territory of Ukraine for determination of its seismic hazard parameters.
