Abstract

Introduction. The research area is located in the northwestern part of the Ukrainian Carpathians within the triangle of Boryslav–Modrychi–Truskavets settlements in the Lviv region. It includes four tectonic units (from southwest to northeast): the frontal part of the Skyba Nappe of the Folded Carpathians, the so-called Intermediate Layer, the Boryslav-Pokuttya and Sambir Nappes. They are composed of both flysch formation rocks of the Upper Cretaceous–Oligocene age interval and a molasses rock complex. The first two units are represented only by flysch formation rocks. In the Boryslav-Pokuttya Nappe, molasse formation deposits represented by Polyanytsya, Vorotyshcha, and in some places Stebnyk suites lie on the flysch base with erosion and stratigraphic unconformity. In the Sambir Nappe, flysch rocks are absent as a link of a normal sequential section. The molasses complex contains coarse-clastic strata: Truskavets conglomerates and olistostrome, which were formed as a result of erosion of older rocks and flysch deposits (Zagorski beds). The article considers issues related to the stratigraphy and tectonics of flysch and molasse formation deposits.

Methods. The following methods were used: structural-tectonic, lithological, geological-geophysical, geochemical, hydrogeological.

Results. The presence of saline horizons in the section of the Polyanytsya formation has been proven, which was previously considered to be signs of the Vorotyshcha formation and led to significant errors in structural constructions. The source for exotic conglomerates in the Polyanytsya-Vorotyshcha deposits was a cordillera inside the molasses sedimentation basin. Neogene Polyanytsya deposits are absent in the Berehova Skyba.

Conclusions. The geological map of the Boryslav–Modrychi–Truskavets section has been revised to a scale of 1:25,000 and four geological sections. For the first time in the Boryslav region, the Intermediate Layer has been identified – a structure between the Skyba and Boryslav-Pokuttya nappes. For the first time in the Boryslav region, five and eight scales have been identified, respectively, in the Berehova and Orivska nappes. A substantiated version of the explanation of the phenomenon, which is expressed in the retreat of the Carpathian thrust line in the Boryslav region to the southwest, is proposed. A scheme of the formation of tectonic dislocations in the Boryslav–Modrychi–Truskavets section is proposed.
